We provide a warm, nurturing, and responsive environment where infants feel safe, valued, and supported throughout their day. Our educators focus on building strong, trusting relationships with each child by carefully observing and responding to their individual needs, routines, interests, and stages of development. This personalized approach allows educators to support each infant’s emotional well-being while fostering a sense of security and belonging.
Infants benefit from a thoughtfully planned range of sensory, language, and movement experiences designed to support early development. These experiences may include tactile exploration, music and songs, stories, gentle physical activities, and opportunities to explore their surroundings at their own pace. Time is intentionally balanced between independent exploration, small group play, and meaningful one-to-one interactions with educators, ensuring each child receives personal attention and support.
Educators thoughtfully offer a wide range of meaningful activities and experiences that respond to children’s evolving interests, strengths, and abilities. Through creative expression such as art, games, loose parts play, sensory exploration, and cooking experiences, children are invited to wonder, experiment, and make connections. These hands-on engagements nurture emerging language, literacy, numeracy, and scientific thinking by encouraging children to observe, ask questions, make predictions, and draw conclusions in ways that are joyful and developmentally appropriate.
Dramatic play, music, movement, and gross motor experiences further enrich children’s learning by supporting communication, collaboration, and self-expression, while also strengthening physical coordination, confidence, and overall well-being. Guided by the principles of the FLIGHT framework, educators intentionally design inclusive, responsive environments that invite curiosity, choice, and deeper exploration.
Educators thoughtfully plan play-based experiences that reflect preschool children’s interests, strengths, and growing abilities, in alignment with the FLIGHT framework. Through art, games, loose parts, sensory play, and simple cooking, children build early language, literacy, numeracy, and scientific thinking as they explore, observe, ask questions, and make predictions. Dramatic play, music, movement, and gross motor activities support communication, social skills, creativity, and physical development.
Learning environments are intentionally designed to invite choice, curiosity, and exploration. Educators view children as capable and confident learners, supporting independence, resilience, and self-help skills while nurturing a strong sense of belonging and a love of learning.
We offer a welcoming, play-based Out of School Care program for Kindergarten to Grade 6 children that supports well-being, belonging, and engagement in line with Alberta’s FLIGHT framework. Children enjoy a balanced mix of active play, creative arts, games, and opportunities to relax and connect with peers, with time for both group experiences and individual choice. Our program provides before and after school care, with full-day care on non-school days.
The Cabin’s philosophy is based on a belief that all children are mighty learners in their community and learn through PLAY.
Possibilities to expand imagination and learning by encouraging child-led activities and practicing strong teacher engagement.
Learning through play. Finding opportunities to activate learning in a fun and engaging way.
Acceptance and equality by celebrating and educating our children about diversity.
You matter! By including children in curriculum creation reflecting their individual needs and interests, we encourage active participation while demonstrating the importance and value of their thoughts, feelings and opinions.
We believe that ‘play is a child's work.' Children have the right to play and be collaborators in their own learning. Our goal is to nurture each child's confidence, creativity, and life-long learning skills in our program.
Active Participation: We engage actively in children’s play, joining in their activities and facilitating discussions that deepen their understanding. By being present and involved, we model problem-solving and creative thinking.
Adaptable Activities: Ensure that all activities are inclusive and can be modified to accommodate varying abilities and interests. This supports every child’s participation and nurtures their self-esteem.
Reflecting Children’s Interests: Incorporate children’s input in curriculum planning, ensuring activities reflect their interests and experiences. This fosters a sense of ownership and relevance in their learning.
Valuing Exploration: Emphasize the importance of the process of learning rather than the final outcome. Encourage children to experiment, make mistakes, and celebrate their discoveries, fostering resilience and creativity.
Building Relationships: Establish strong, trusting relationships with each child, ensuring they feel safe and valued in their learning environment. This emotional security is essential for effective learning through play.
